On Thursday I had my first fetal monitoring appointment due to the gestational diabetes. Essentially this consists of sitting in a chair for 20+ minutes with an amplifier on my belly. Oh yeah, I also get a button to push every time she kicks. Well, apparently Allison passed her first test with flying colors in about 10 minutes! (Unfortunately, I still had to sit there for the remainder...) I was originally told that this was a 1x/week test, however, I have now been put on a medication to encourage my body to produce more insulin, so with that, I have to go in 2x/week now. I feel like I might as well move in to St. John's! But I just keep telling myself that we only have 7 weeks to go...

- Like so many others, I started my first blog back in 2007 as a way to stay in touch with family and friends. And honestly, I had no idea what blogging was all about. I began each post with something like, "Last weekend we..." I used it as a way to remember what I did two weeks ago. Or to document the munchkin's milestones... Because I have yet to write anything in her baby book. I'm such a horrible mother. But starting Dear Mommy Brain in 2010 was an exciting propect to join the ranks of thousands of other bloggers. And honestly, I don't know where this blog will go. Right now, it's very heavy on cooking. Which I love. Preparing delicious, wholesome food is my biggest passion. But next month, there might be a greater emphasis on frugal living. Or parenting. Or motorcycle maintenance. Well, probably not that. But being a mom means wearing many hats, so it's not out of the realm of possiblity that I'd have to perform motorcycle maintenance someday. If the hubbs ever convinces me to allow him to purchase a motorcycle, that is. But more than anything, it's the adventures of a woman learning how to balance motherhood and selfhood to make each day as gratifying as possible.
